BIO paper cups
BIO (PLA) paper cups are compostable, i.e. biodegradable in industrial composting plants. Paper laminated with a layer of plant-based PLA (polylactide acid) is most often used for their production. They are materials that are safe for people as well as the environment. The BIO paper cups comply with current ecological standards. The demand for sustainable paper cups is growing, although it's not entirely clear which type of cup has the least environmental impact. The EarthCoating (reUUSI) material is new in our product range. This highly mineralised plastic makes the paper cup recyclable. Its manufacture uses 46% less plastic and it can be recycled in any conventional waste paper facility. The reUUSI bio paper cups are not biodegradable, but are fully recyclable, making them the most environment-friendly solution for beverage packaging. More than 95% of the material from the reUUSI cup will actually be paper again after recycling. This is a very good result and is classified as AAA for mixed paper waste (even better than conventional cardboard boxes, which only achieve the AA classification). The reUUSI cup looks and feels the same as with conventional PE or PLA lamination.
PLA versus PE
PLA (bioplastic) is produced from organic sources, such as corn starch, and is 100% biodegradable. PLA laminated paper cups are biodegradable and can be composted in industrial composting plants where the material decomposes within 6 weeks. Unlike organic PLA (polylactide), PE (polyethylene) is a petroleum by-product and is neither biodegradable nor compostable.
All paper cups sold in the EU must bear the SUP (turtle) logo informing the consumer about the plastic content of the product under Directive (EU) 2019/904 since July 3rd, 2021. As the EU considers PLA (polylactide) to be plastic, all paper cups, including BIO paper cups, must be marked with this logo.
Disposable BIO paper cups are available in single-walled and double-walled (hot) options. Double-walled BIO paper coffee cups or hot paper cups have a double wall so that the cup does not burn your hand and the drink in the cup remains a constant temperature for longer. BIO paper cups can be delivered with a standard print or with a custom print according to your graphic design. Print in up to 10 colours. We have 4oz to 16oz cup sizes available as standard. If you can't find the ideal cup size in our range, please don't hesitate to contact us.
We sell the BIO paper cups only to wholesale distributors and large consumers. We never sell cups at retail to avoid disrupting the business of our wholesale partners.
We are happy to prepare a range of BIO paper cups with a standard print based on your request. The minimum purchase of custom printed BIO paper cups is 20,000 pieces/size. The quantity purchased significantly affects the cup's final price.
